  • Note that I have made a few grammatical changes myself to save time
Playing career
  • The main problem here is that the "Playing career" section is relatively short (compared to the Managerial section), despite the fact that he played for over 15 years. Can you expand this section?
  • "In 1990 he moved to Stockport County for a £40,000 fee, where he had a distinguished ten year career." This sentence just doesn't make sense, I know what it's trying to say but it needs rewording.
  • "In 1992 he made his first trip to Wembley, playing in the Football League Trophy final, losing 1–0 to Stoke City" - changing tense midway through a sentence is poor writing
Other points
  • The article says that Gannon scored in "all four English divisions". I suppose by this it means the top four divisions, but then it would not be true. As far as I can see, he never even played in the top division, so he definitely didn't score.
  • In the infobox, it implies that he was at Crewe on a permanent basis, but the text of the article says it was a loan.
  • Managerial style section could be expanded, for example say what tactics he uses, favoured formations etc.
  • It seems strange to use American spellings ("criticize", "utilize") in an article about a British footballer. British spelling is used throughout ("Honours", etc.) apart from words ending in "-ise" for some reason.
  • Sources look mostly good, but is there a more reliable source than his personal website for the Fair Play awards?

I'll leave the review on hold for a few days. BigDom 20:53, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Playing career
  • The main problem here is that the "Playing career" section is relatively short (compared to the Managerial section), despite the fact that he played for over 15 years. Can you expand this section? Searched archives to add little pieces of information. All the main details are already covered.
  • It looks fine now. I realise that his managerial career has received more coverage than his playing days, so it's not too important that this section is a bit shorter. BigDom 20:23, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • "In 1990 he moved to Stockport County for a £40,000 fee, where he had a distinguished ten year career." This sentence just doesn't make sense, I know what it's trying to say but it needs rewording. Changed this to reflect new information.
  • "In 1992 he made his first trip to Wembley, playing in the Football League Trophy final, losing 1–0 to Stoke City" - changing tense midway through a sentence is poor writing Changed.
Other points
  • The article says that Gannon scored in "all four English divisions". I suppose by this it means the top four divisions, but then it would not be true. As far as I can see, he never even played in the top division, so he definitely didn't score. The information is from the sources. By four divisions they mean First Division, Second Division, Third Division, and Fourth Division. This occurred as he arrived in the bottom tier before the creation of the Premier League, and so when he reached the second tier it was renamed the First Division. Please advice.
  • Well, it's obviously misleading and frankly wrong, but it is cited to a reliable source and it's verifiable so by WP standards it's fine, and I certainly can't fail the article over a matter of personal preference. BigDom 20:23, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • In the infobox, it implies that he was at Crewe on a permanent basis, but the text of the article says it was a loan. Text has been corrected.
  • Managerial style section could be expanded, for example say what tactics he uses, favoured formations etc. Added a paragraph on formations.
  • It seems strange to use American spellings ("criticize", "utilize") in an article about a British footballer. British spelling is used throughout ("Honours", etc.) apart from words ending in "-ise" for some reason. Changed.
  • Sources look mostly good, but is there a more reliable source than his personal website for the Fair Play awards? Added another source.

Thanks.--EchetusXe 23:27, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The changes are OK, and I've made a couple more small edits myself, so I think this passes the Good article criteria now. Congrats, BigDom 20:23, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers, appreciate the edits and the comments.--EchetusXe 20:38, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
